Helena Riley, a Los Angeles-based social media personality, is leaning on her audience after a sudden injury left her with a fractured spine. She turned to X and a GoFundMe page to ask for help, and supporters began donating within hours.
How Riley announced the injury and started a fundraiser
On March 24 Riley shared a short message on X and linked to a crowdfunding campaign. The influencer has built a large following on the platform, with roughly 146,000 followers at the time.

Her GoFundMe opened with a $14,000 goal. Within a day it had collected $12,210 from 374 donors.
What she says happened and why she needs help
Riley explained that she fainted at home due to a separate health issue and landed on her back. The fall fractured her spine.
She described recovery as lengthy and costly, and criticized her insurance coverage as inadequate. Riley said she cannot absorb large medical bills without serious financial harm, which prompted the fundraiser.
Planned use of donations
- Medical bills from emergency care and follow-up treatments
- Surgery, if required
- Rehabilitation and physical therapy
- Lost wages while she recovers
The campaign page also included photos, one showing Riley wearing a torso brace in a mirror selfie.
Riley’s online career and audience connection
Riley first gained attention through Instagram and an OnlyFans presence. She became known for light, quirky content, including videos of herself eating candy.
Her X account, however, brought her a particularly engaged audience. In a past interview with a culture magazine she said she was surprised by how her social reach grew despite not pursuing a traditional media career.
Other recent crowdfunding appeals among public figures
Riley is one of several public figures who recently turned to crowdfunding for emergency expenses.
- A GoFundMe launched to support the family of NHL reporter Jessi Pierce followed a fatal house fire that also claimed her three children and the family dog. That appeal appeared days before Riley’s campaign.
- In late February, friends and loved ones set up a GoFundMe to assist the family of actor Eric Dane. That drive had raised about $490,000 toward a $500,000 target shortly after it began.
What this trend shows
Public fundraising for medical needs underscores gaps in coverage for many people. For creators who rely on social platforms for income, sudden health crises can quickly become financial emergencies.
